589 An environmentally friendly HVAC solution for Engelbert Strauss’ CI Factory Engelbert Strauss sought an environmentally friendly HVAC solution for its CI Factory and turned to Daikin technologies to meet this need. The facility is now equipped with five EWAH-TZ units, delivering a total cooling capacity of 3,450 kW to ensure efficient and sustainable cooling and air conditioning. The challenge This well-known manufacturer applies the same high standards of innovation to its CI Factory as it does to its products—particularly in terms of temperature control and environmental sustainability. On the roof of the logistics centre, a photovoltaic system with a nominal output of 800 kW supplies energy equivalent to the needs of 200 households. To remain consistent with these sustainability principles, the cooling and air conditioning systems also had to be designed with efficiency and environmental responsibility in mind. For this reason, Engelbert Strauss chose Daikin. The solution The project called for an environmentally friendly HVAC solution, which led to the choice of chillers using the low GWP R-1234ze refrigerant. When combined with Daikin’s Single Screw compressor technology, it also delivers outstanding energy efficiency. On the roof of the CI Factory, four Daikin air-cooled chillers are installed in a cascade configuration, each providing 820 kW of cooling capacity. This setup ensures efficient air conditioning for both the logistics and production areas. The cascade arrangement allows precise system control, activating all or only some of the chillers according to the building’s actual cooling demand. The chiller plant also includes an additional air-cooled EWAH-TZ chiller with a 170 kW capacity, dedicated to cooling the factory’s server rooms. These relatively compact chillers require minimal space while offering maximum reliability and flexibility for process cooling. One of the most recent installations took place in Porto, Portugal, where two EWYT-CZ units were installed, delivering a total cooling and heating capacity of 21 kW each. The challenge The goal of the project was to provide the end customer with a versatile solution capable of delivering both heating and cooling according to seasonal needs, as well as hot sanitary water. The system was designed to ensure maximum reliability, high energy efficiency, and low operating costs. The solution The new R-32 Small Inverter Chiller has once again proven to be an excellent solution for residential projects, demonstrating the versatility of Daikin’s product portfolio, which can meet the needs of installations ranging from large stadiums to individual homes. For this project, Daikin supplied two units in the heating version, each delivering 21 kW to comfortably meet the system’s capacity requirements while achieving market-leading energy efficiency for this product segment. Designing for Madrid’s iconic skyline presented a unique challenge: creating an energy-efficient environment capable of supporting the building’s diverse functions. With tailored HVAC solutions, Daikin played a key role in helping the project achieve LEED certification, combining performance, sustainability, and comfort at every level. The challenge Caleido is a complex in Madrid’s financial district. The tower itself is home to IE, a prestigious educational institution serving over 5,000 students. Rising more than 180 meters, Caleido presented a major challenge: creating a comfortable and energy-efficient environment that adapts seamlessly to its diverse uses. Adding to the complexity, the project was pursuing LEED certification, which required meeting a stringent set of sustainability and efficiency criteria throughout the building. Wellington Place is a prestigious new urban quarter in the heart of Leeds city centre, emerging as a prime business destination for leading corporate organisations. The latest additions, 7 and 8 Wellington Place, are Grade A office buildings set to become a regional Government Hub, housing several key departments. To support their advanced climate control needs, the buildings have been equipped with six D-AHU Professional units and four high-efficiency TZ chillers, delivering a total cooling capacity of 3,080 kW. The challenge The goal of the project was to create a high-quality working environment for civil servants, going beyond basic functionality to foster well-being, comfort, and productivity. The solution To meet the project’s demanding energy efficiency and sustainability requirements, Daikin supplied four TZ air-cooled chillers from the Platinum efficiency range. 594 Chiller, heat pumps & compressor factories This Daikin plant is dedicated to the production of water-cooled and waterto-water chillers, covering a capacity range from 98 kW up to 11 MW. Production includes various technologies, featuring units equipped with screw compressors (inverter or on/off), modular water-cooled units with scroll compressors, as well as centrifugal and oil‑free centrifugal chillers. Plant dedicated to the production of air-cooled and air‑cooled chillers, also available in the free cooling version. The air-to-water units cover a capacity range from 82 kW up to 2,000 kW. Factory dedicated to R&D, testing, and manufacturing of screw compressors and Inverter screw compressors, as well as the assembly of centrifugal compressors. This plant, built in 2021, is dedicated to the production of air-to-water heat pumps and air-cooled chillers with capacities ranging from 16 kW to 90 kW, equipped with Daikin inverter compressors.

595 Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) The Building I facility focuses on R&D for advanced HVAC technologies and includes an Engineering Area for prototyping and testing water-to-water units up to 4,500 kW, and a Climatic Test Room capable of testing various systems, air-cooled, water-to-water, four-pipe, and free cooling, under conditions from –20°C to +52°C. Daikin offers Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) to ensure units meet all requirements before delivery. Tests are performed at our AHRI-certified factory benches (up to 11 MW), and special conditions like unique power supplies can also be accommodated for optimal performance. Daikin features certified climatic chambers for witness tests, capable of validating air-cooled chillers up to 2,000 kW under extreme conditions from –15 °C to +52 °C ambient temperature, at both 50 Hz and 60 Hz. All tests comply with AHRI and Eurovent standards, ensuring performance and reliability under full and part-load conditions.
